Bearded

I don’t have many older photos of bearded ancestors. I have photos of two of my great grandfathers with their beard and mustache. Both my great grandfathers were enslaved. They lived to see their freedom.

The photo on the left is of my Great Grandfather, Robert Louis Lankford / Lankfard (1852 – 1919). He was my mother’s grandfather. Robert was the father of 12.

The photo on the right is of my Great Grandfather, Private Isaac BLAKER also known as Isaac BLAKEY (1845 – 1917). He was my father’s grandfather. Isaac was the father of 20.

In the photo, Robert has a fuzzy half beard with sideburns and some hair under the center area under his lower lip. I have another photo of Robert with sideburns and a mustache. I noticed in all the photos of Robert, he was well dressed in a three piece suit.

I hope of Isaac is not as clear. It appears that he was dress in a coat. I have a younger photo of Isaac with his second wife, Rachel who was my Grandpa John, step mother. Isaac was clean shaven, wearing a suit and had a hat on.

Another unique thing about my great grandfathers, both had a left leg injury. Robert was due to a fall that caused his death in November of 1919. Isaac’s injury was due to a bayonet wound during his server in the Civil War in the Spring of 1864. I’m working on that blog: Isaac Blakey’s Civil War Wound

Week 45: Bearded via Genealogy Cafe on facebook.

Did you know that some men celebrate “No Shave November” (or, as some call it, “Novembeard”)? This would be a great time to write about the bearded or mustachioed people on the family tree. Feel free to share your link, stories, and photos in the comments

Private Isaac Blakey

On October 31, 1981, I was told that Isaac Blakey was my Great Grandfather. I've been a journey to discover more about him.

And I have discovered a lot about him over the 39 + years. Private Isaac BLAKER I'm coming across DNA cousins as well.

Isaac resided in Mississippi from about 1861 to 1878 - 1879. It was during sometime after the war he was trying to locate and reunite with family from MO. He located them and moved them back to MO.

Isaac returned to Missouri around the Spring of 1879. By 1880, he was living with his mother, Julia, some of his siblings and relatives in Chariton County. Isaac was a farmer. He was a deacon in the black First Baptist Church in Forest Green, MO. He was believe to have been of the faith.

In Isaac latter life, he became disable. He was unable to work due to his injury during the Civil War. He lived out his life in Chariton County Missouri.

Things Have Changed

It's 2020! Things have been changing. I came back to Blogger and found that things have changed. I can't get use to the new style of doing things.

I hope I get use to things. I like future posting. I see that the post will not do so. I'm losing my drafts. I can't locate them. I have to post live.

Oh, the journey set before me.
Hope I can get the hang of things.

Reflecting Over My Journey: Things Have Been Changing And More To Come

Every September is a new year for me. Also, it's the ending of Summer and the transiting of the Autumn Season. It's was a good transition. I'm coming along in my New Year.

Through the years, I've enjoyed the Summer months. Then the years come and go. Things change. We have to go with the changes.

Since the first Friday in June 2017 there was no Friday night gatherings at the church I've been attending.  I loved gathering with the church on Fridays. Well, things have changed.

I've adjusted to the changes. It appears that my Friday nights has changed as well. I'm back to what I somewhat use to do on Fridays.

I will admit, I've been lazy on Friday nights during the months of June through September 2017. It took me a while to overcome the changes. I doing okay.

I've been doing other things on Friday nights. I rarely gone out. After 23 years of gathering with the Church on Friday, it' s takes time to want to do other things.

I have cultivated some new things over the months. I've been practicing things. I think I'm coming along with it. I used to not going. It appears that regular, Friday night gatherings is a thing of the past.

I would always look forward to Fridays. Sad to say, I don't anymore. Now, it's just another day.  I have a new attitude.

I'm learning to enjoy my Fridays and everyday now. I look forward to the day that I'm in . Not just the certain day of the week. But, each new day.

This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. I'm learning to do that every day. It's good to gather with the church on the set time during the week. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my every day life.

May we reflect back over things in our lives.
May we see the good in changes that come.
May we make the best of what we have in the time that we have on earth.
Amen!

God bless you.

Still Journaling On My Other Sites

I haven't been writing poems for a long time. I seen to have fallen away from doing so. I have my other sites that I tend to.

I'm coming along with my family connections. That was the mean reason why I searching blogging. I wanted to record what I find. I have been coming across other long lost relatives.

I had my DNA test done in 2012 or so. I have about 449 DNA matches on Ancestry.com. There are many who don't know there family lineage. It's hard to figure out where people match.

I think some of the people who are taking the DNA test are out to find out where there ancestors came from. There are some who are going beyond that. They are wanting to make family connections. That's what I want.

It's nice to know where I ancestors came from. And it's even greater to contact with relatives that didn't know that they were related. That great joy it is the make that discovery.

I still journaling on my other sites.
I have other social media accounts as well.

Thanks for reading.
God bless you.

Resting, Still Waiting

Resting, still waiting, Dawning of new day
Newness in coming, Healing on its way

Waiting and waiting, Believe that it's so
His rays of beauty, Ancient days of old

Jesus, the Healer, We're forever bless
On His promises, In Him, we find rest

All in due timing, His Word comes to past
Keep standing, waiting, From start till the  last

Believe that its so, By faith not by sight
Resting, still waiting, Quite in His light

On This Quiet Day

Mind drifting away, On this quiet day
Trying to keep focus, Going on my way

Now catching myself, Wondering away
Try to keep awake, Yawning as I pray

Still in quietness, My mind on display
Happy thanksgiving, Being as it may

Trying to keep focus, Going through this day
Mind drifting onward, Hoping won't stray

Rethinking this time, What's past? as I lay
Awake, forgiven, On this quiet day

In Cluttered Thinking

In cluttered thinking, Needing to push through
These tingled feelings, Making me unglued

Needing some balance, Life's journey must do
Every day living, Learning something new

Got to keep moving, From what we foresee
Caught in His presence, Perfect place to be

Endure to the end, Those things set in view
In cluttered thinking, Learning something new

The Journey Begins

The journey begins, Sacred time now here
Picking up my cross, Jesus drawing near

As I draw to Him, Every time aware
Daily His presence,  Believing He cares

Been known in lifetime, Hoping to press on
New mind set onward, Awakens the dawn

New beginnings flow, Look beyond what's next
Having to regroup,  It's not in context

Shaking out the past, Pressing on ahead
The journey begins, Being Spirit lead
